Kumbalangi Nights actor Sreenath Bhasi to be questioned by police for alleged verbal abuse against journalist

Malayalam actor Sreenath Bhasi will be questioned by the police after a journalist had filed a case against him, alleging that he had verbally abused her and her team after an interview during the promotions of his latest movie Chattambi.

The journalist, who is part of an online media channel, had alleged that Sreenath Bhasi had lost his temper during an interview and had also demanded that the camera be turned off, before hurling abuses at the producer. The actor reportedly also shouted at the interviewer to ask better questions and was further infuriated after the film’s producer said this was a fun segment.

A video clip from the interview, which is now circulated on social media, shows a visibly annoyed Sreenath after he is asked to rate his colleagues on the basis of their rowdiness. According to reports, the journalist had filed a case against the actor with the Maradu Police station as well as Kerala Women’s Commission.

According to the complainant, the actor was asked a question about ‘who is a rowdy at home’. After answering the query, he said that the interviewer was asking “plastic questions” and expressed disinterest in answering them. The anchor stated that she and her colleagues had continued with the interview, but Sreenath Bhasi, without any provocation, got enraged and shouted at them, using foul language, to not ask him such questions.

Apparently after the incident had transpired, the online channel had approached the actor via the film’s PR team, to ask him to apologise to the interviewer. The actor, however, refused. Police has now registed the case on the basis of an email complaint that was sent to the Maradu station by the interviewer.

Chattambi, which is directed by Abhilash S Kumar, released on September 23. The movie, which is Sreenath’s first film as a lead actor, also has Guru Somasundaram, Chemban Vinod Jose and Mythili as part of the cast.
