Netflix’s Korean drama Squid Game has kept viewers glued to the small screen ever since it dropped on September 17 on the streaming platform. The show swiftly rose to being the top-rated show in the US. It is but natural that those who are already fans of the show, anticipate good news of a second season.
Writer-director Hwang Dong-hyuk is soaking in the success of the series but he revealed to Variety that it is ‘quite tiring’ to consider the idea of a sequel.

He also mentioned that he might think about putting a ‘writers’ room’ if a sequel was finalised and that ‘multiple experienced directors’ would be roped in the process. Hwang found it difficult to write the script for Squid Game since he mainly pens the scripts for movies.
The filmmaker has written movies like Miss Granny The Fortress, My Father. Squid Game is his debut series. He also revealed that he wrote the script for the first two episodes in six months. The idea of the series was to explore the deleterious effects of destructive competition in a capitalist economy.

The survival game series is steadily headed to overtake Bridgerton as the most desired show of all time on the platform. The plot follows 456 people who are in dire need of money as they compete in a game show of children’s games consisting of six games to win the jackpot of USD 45.6 billion. The ones who clear the game are promoted to the next game while the ones who cannot are killed.
