In a surprising turn of events, Netflix's new reality show Squid Game: The Challenge contestants are angry over some conditions. Some of them even threatened to take legal action against the makers due to health risks and injuries.

Why are contestants angry?

Squid Game: The Challenge premiered on Wednesday on the streaming giant Netflix and is already stirring controversies after the reality show’s contestants claimed to have undergone brutal conditions during the shoot. They also claimed to have sustained injuries and health effects while shooting the competitive game show.

Netflix and the producers of the show are allegedly threatened to experience a lawsuit from the contestants. Express Solicitors, a British personal injury firm revealed on Thanksgiving Day that some contestants are demanding compensation from the makers and production company Studio Lambert for their bitter experience and the law firm is representing the grievant parties.

According to Hollywood Reporter, CEO Daniel Slade said in a statement,

“We have sent letters of claim on behalf of contestants injured in this show. From what we’ve been told, they pushed the boundaries of safety in the name of entertainment. Production companies need to ensure that health and safety standards on their shows don’t leave people at risk of harm.”Legal firm Express Solicitors is representing two players who claimed to suffer from hypothermia and nerve damage during the film shoot in extreme weather conditions in the UK.

The firm also revealed that its clients jeopardize their health by staying in a static position for a longer period of time during the Red Light, Green Light game as part of the competition.

“One client describes seeing someone faint, then people shouting for medics. We have a case where someone complains of hypothermia. One had his hands turn purple from the cold. Such injuries can have very serious long-term health implications,” Slade added.

Makers respond to lawsuit threats

Executive producer John Hay told Hollywood Reported that paramount safety measures were taken. Citing the Red Light, Green Light criticism, he said, “We anticipated and actually strenuously tested everything in advance and made sure we took all the proper measures.”

While executive producer Stephen Lambert added, “We’re giving away the largest prize in TV competition history. It wasn’t going to be a walk in the park to win $4.56 million.” He also said that the Squid Game survival series is a lot better than some of the unscripted shows with much worse conditions.

Netflix released the first five episodes of Squid Game adaptation, Squid Game: The Challenge on 22 November.
