Synopsis: Hwang Dong-hyuk, the director and creator of Squid Game, has revealed what the future holds for the Netflix drama series.
Squid Game
Fans of the survival drama Squid Game will have to wait for season 2 because it turns out it’s not releasing anytime soon. Fans of the Netflix success, which immediately became the platform's most-watched non-English show, have been curious to find more about the shows' future plans.
While conversing with Vanity Fair, Squid Game producer Hwang Dong-hyuk teased that viewers may have to wait a long time, since he only has three pages of ideas for the upcoming script.
However, Dong-hyuk did open up about what to expect from the upcoming instalment, whenever it may be. Just like in season one, the characters will be put to the test through a series of games. Those games will yet again put morality to the test, the filmmaker told the publication. "I'd like to address the question, 'Is true human solidarity possible?”
At rhe beginning of 2022, Netflix had announced the Korean series’s renewal for a second season. "The Squid Game universe has just begun," Netflix CCO Ted Sarandos stated at the time.
The enormously popular drama, which starred Lee Jung-jae, Park Hae-soo, Jung Hoyeon, and Oh Yeong-su, followed the story of 456 gullible people striving for 45.6 billion South Korean won. A bloody, high level of competition involving a series of basic children's games follows.
Squid Game set new records when 111 million people watched it in the first 28 days it was available for streaming. The series has recently been reported to have received over 2.1 billion watch hours from fans all around the globe.
Three SAG awards and two Critics Choice awards were received for the show. The 77-year-old actor O Yeong-su won a Golden Globe for his portrayal of the deceptive yet weak "Player 001."
