Hwang Dong-hyuk, the director of Squid Game has stated that he is working on a new film called Killing Old People Club, based on a novel by Umberto Eco, the famed Italian philosopher and essayist, according to Variety.
Speaking during a session at MipTV along with his producer, Jun Young Jang of February Films, Dong-hyuk revealed he had already penned a 25-page treatment note about the project, which will surely be "another controversial film," as he put it.
According to Variety, the project's working title is K.O. Club and the filmmaker hinted that it will be more violent than Squid Game. He added that following the film's release, he might have to hide from old folks.
The critically acclaimed creator has announced that he will return to South Korea to create the second season of Squid Game, which he intends to be available on Netflix by the end of 2024.
Steven Spielberg told Dong-hyuk that he wanted to "take his brain after seeing his superhit Netflix show. Last month, Dong-hyuk reported that he met Spielberg at the AFI Awards Luncheon.
According to Variety, the Korean director recalled that Spielberg told him that he had seen his complete show in three days and now he wanted to steal his brain.
Because Spielberg is his hero, that was the biggest praise Dong-hyuk ever received. He grew up seeing his films.
