Spider-Man has proven why he could be the most popular superhero. The trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home piled up an amazing 355.5 million global views within 24 hours of its release.
Creating this global viewership record, the trailer for the third installment of MCU’s Spider-Man series broke the previous record held by MCU’s Avengers: Endgame. The trailer of Avengers: Endgame received 289 million views in the first 24 hours, according to Deadline.
The trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home also garnered more than double the views than its predecessor Spider-Man: Far From Home, which had 135 million views in the first 24 hours.
The excitement for the trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home began even before the trailer was officially released. The video was leaked online the day before and Sony had to work overtime to erase it from the internet. The movie by itself was surrounded by several theories and rumours, with some fan favourite villains from the previous Spider-Man movies said to make an appearance.
The trailer also confirmed that the movie will see Doctor Octopus aka Doc Ock played by Alfred Molina making a comeback. Molina played the scientist turned supervillain in Sam Raimi’s original Spider-Man trilogy. The return of Doc Ock was one reason the trailer was trending on social media after its release.
Spider-Man: No Way Home is directed by Jon Watts and stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jon Favreau, Jacob Batalon, Marisa Tomei and Molina among others. The movie will hit theatres in December.
