Spider-Man: No Way Home - Tom Holland on how he helped rewrite the hero’s fate in the film

In the upcoming MCU film, the superhero must face the repercussions of Doctor Strange’s spell gone wrong

Spider-Man: No Way Home is the most highly anticipated MCU film of the year. Star Tom Holland recently revealed that he too had a hand in deciding Spidey’s fate in the upcoming film.

In conversation with GQ, the actor talked about how he felt ‘wrong’ filming a particularly crucial scene in the film. Holland said that he was in disbelief that his character had uttered the line, and he took up the matter with the film’s director, Jon Watts. Watts had also been a director of the two previous films starring Holland as well.

Watts and Holland had gone over it together and came up with a new idea on how the scene should go and pitched it to the writing team. The team had accepted their suggestions and wrote them into the film.

Holland had also revealed how hectic things had been on the film’s sets, with several quick decisions about important elements being made hastily. The crew’s worries were also exacerbated with the news that Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness had to undergo reshoots. The Doctor Strange sequel was initially supposed to be released ahead of Spider-Man: No Way Home.

In Spider-Man: No Way Home Peter Parker struggles to adjust to life after his identity becomes public. When he approaches Dr Strange for a spell to fix things, something goes wrong and the hero is left to deal with the repercussions.

In addition to Holland, the upcoming film stars Zendaya, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jacob Batalon, Alfred Molina, Willem Dafoe, Jamie Foxx and Thomas Haden Church, among others.

Spider-Man: No Way Home will hit theatres on December 17, 2021.
