It's been close to two and a half years since the release of the Tom Holland-led Spider-Man: No Way Home but no other film in the superhero realm has managed to replicate or even come close to the crazy frenzy and success that the film enjoyed. With its release, it was already the most anticipated movie, and this was reflected in how audiences flooded the theaters, taking the box office collections and footfalls to a level where James Cameron’s Avatar was in danger. The movie kept earning at the box office like wildfire, and there seemed no way to stop it. What supported it was a good storyline, an insane amount of good drama, and, of course, the union of the Spider-Men when Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield entered the scene.
While Spider-Man: No Way Home was about Peter Parker trying to make the world forget his existence, it was also about the many characters that were about to walk in. While Charlie Cox’s Daredevil was the first to make us go crazy, he was followed by a long list of villains from all the Spider-Man movies so far. But the world lost its sanity when the film laid the red carpet for Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire, who played their respective versions of Spider-Man. But while they had a very interesting storyline, do you know the initial plans for them were quite wild?
Yes, you read that right. Spider-Man: No Way Home indeed went through multiple rewrites and reshaping where a lot of elements from the first draft changed. As for Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, the makers had some very interesting plans that would have added some more runtime and a lengthier plot. As per Cracked, the idea for Tobey’s Peter Parker involved introducing Vulture’s daughter as Black Cat in No Way Home. If that is not enough, the plans also included a cheating subplot for the two of them. We can only imagine the chaos that would have ensued.
Andrew Garfield came to No Way Home with the trauma of losing Gwen Stacy, and none of us will ever forget the scene where she died and our Spider-Man couldn't do anything. While Spider-Man: No Way Home gave him a redemption scene with him saving MJ, the original plans were to introduce a magical blood resurrection that would have brought back Gwen and also formed the Sinister Six. Now that's what makes the wild wilder. Imagine if this had happened for real, what the movie would have looked like.
However, Spider-Man: No Way Home ended with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield returning to their timelines, and the world forgetting who Peter Parker was. The anticipation is now for Spider-Man 4 and whether Sony and Marvel plan to reunite the three Spideys again. Spider-Man: No Way Home is now streaming on Sony LIV, and you can watch it through your OTTplay Premium subscription.
