Spider-Man 4: Did Sony just confirm Tom Hardy’s Venom is joining Tom Holland in the MCU?

Sony Confirms Spider-Man 4 Features Tom Hardy

No one was clearly ready to hear that Tom Hardy might join the Tom Holland starrer Spider-Man 4 after his last film in the Sony trilogy, Venom: The Last Dance. Ever since it was learned that the third Venom movie is the swan song for the actor, everyone has been curious about where we will see him next. Soon, rumors suggested that he might seep into the MCU. However, we later saw Hardy himself refuting these rumors, saying there was no way he was joining the fourth Spidey movie. But it now turns out Sony Pictures’ PR in Japan has done something that has probably confirmed Hardy’s full-fledged MCU debut.

Did Sony Confirm Tom Hardy’s Spider-Man 4 Role?

In a press release for Japan, Sony shared a note on Spider-Man 4, where it confirmed Tom Holland’s return. However, what caught our attention was what they confirmed next. They mentioned Tom Hardy in a way that seemingly confirmed his entry into the movie. As per Direct, the translation of the press release reads, "Tom Holland, who plays Peter, has already given his stamp of approval to the story! 'This will be a real movie that fans can respect!' Is Tom Hardy, who plays Eddie in the 'Venom' series, ready to take part?"

The same press release further mentioned what Tom Hardy had to say about joining Spider-Man 4 in the past. He said, "Venom's story is not over yet" and expressed how he would "like to work with [Tom Holland]. In fact, I should not say goodbye to Venom but welcome to the final stage. Venom's story is not over yet. He still has a lot to do. Tom Holland is the best Spider-Man. I would like to work with him. If someone needs me, I'd be happy to participate."

Tom Hardy on Joining Spider-Man 4

According to Comic Book Movie, Tom Hardy has now revealed why he doesn’t see himself joining Spider-Man 4, and the reason is interesting. He said, "I don’t see myself in the next Spider-Man movie because I’d have the script, and I don’t have that."

Now, there is much to unpack here because the actor could be bluffing, and there’s no way he’s entirely disconnected from the MCU. After all, he made a cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home and even saw Tom Holland’s Peter Parker in the post-credit scene of Venom: Let There Be Carnage.

At some point, both studios will have to address those two scenes. Meanwhile, speaking at the New York Comic Con last weekend, Tom Hardy discussed his exit from the Venom franchise. He said, "Well, it’s been seven years to this day. I’ve absolutely loved playing Eddie and Venom. It’s been one of the best things I’ve ever done in my life, so it’ll be sad to see him go."

He also added, "I would like to fight Spider-Man. I would like to fight him right now. In a movie, 100%. I would never say never."
