Thuramukham’s loss could be Kallan D’Souza’s gain! A day after Nivin Pauly took to his social media to announce that the release of his film Thuramukham has been postponed, the makers of Soubin Shahir’s Kallan D’Souza has confirmed that they have moved up the release of their movie from January 27 to January 21. This will mean Kallan D’Souza and Vineeth Sreenivasan’s Hridayam are currently the only two movies lined up for release in theatres on January 21.

Nivin on Tuesday took to his social media page to announce that the team has decided to postpone the theatrical release of Thuramukham, “considering the surge in Covid cases”. Earlier this week, there was also a court injunction against the distribution and screening of the movie, after a dispute between the film’s initial distributors and producer Sukumar Thekkepat.

Thuramukham is the third Malayalam movie to postpone its release due to the rise in COVID-19 cases in the country, after Dulquer Salmaan’s Salute and Tovino Thomas’ Naradan that were set to hit theatres on January 14 and January 27, respectively.

Meanwhile, Kallan D’Souza had wrapped up its production much before the pandemic and the team had been aiming for a Vishu 2020 release when the pandemic lockdown was announced. Starring Soubin, Dileesh Pothan, Surabhi Lakshmi and Hareesh Kanaran, the movie is directed by debutant Jithu K Jayan and has Soubin playing the titular character of thief.

Though Kallan D’Souza had appeared in Dulquer’s Charlie, apart from the character having the same name, there isn’t much of a connection between the story of the Martin Prakkat directorial and the upcoming movie.

While Kallan D’Souza and Hridayam are currently scheduled for a January 21 release in theatres, Shane Nigam and Revathy’s thriller Bhoothakaalam will release on Sony LIV the same day.
