The film, directed by SG Charles, is all set to drop on Disney + Hotstar on May 12
As Aishwarya Rajesh's Soppana Sundari gears up for its OTT release on May 12, fans of the actress are eagerly awaiting to watch the dark comedy once again. Here are a few reasons why this film would make for an interesting watch.
Quirky plot
The film, directed by SG Charles revolves around a young woman named Agalya (Aishwarya) from a lower-middle-class family who wins a car in a raffle draw. Little does she know that the very car will soon get her into trouble. What happens to Sundari and her impoverished family, forms the plot.
Aishwarya Rajesh's performance
When it comes to power-packed and effortless performances, Aishwarya Rajesh sure knows how to lead the show. Here, too, she plays the character of Agalya to perfection. Not only does she ace the scenes on her own, but combination scenes with her mother (Deepa Shankar) and speech-impaired sister (Lakshmi Priya Chandramouli) are a scream.
Women steal the show
It's not often that we see women taking the centrestage in our films. But, Soppana Sundari is an out and out women affair. They not only headline the show but also pack a punch with their outstanding performances.

The film's title is an ode to the legendary scene starring the ace comedians Goundamani and Senthil where they discuss about the previous owner of their car, actress Soppana Sundari. The scene in the 1989 film, directed by Gangai Amaren, revolves around the many owners of the car. And since the plot of Aishwarya Rajesh, too, revolves around a red car (just as in Karagattakaran), the film itself is an ode to the ace comedians.
The star cast of Soppana Sundari also includes Karunakaran, Sathish Krishnan, Redin Kingsley, Mime Gopi, Sunil Reddy, Sha Ra, to name a few. The film hit screens on the occasion of Tamil New Year (April 14).
