Streaming giant Sony LIV confirmed the OTT release dates of Mammootty’s Turbo and Biju Menon’s Thalavan, along with the digital launch trailer of its latest Malayalam release - Malayalee from India, which has Nivin Pauly and Dhyan Sreenivasan in the lead.

Watch Malayalee from India on Sony LIV and enjoy 35+ OTTs like ZEE5, LionsgatePlay, Ullu, SunNXT, SonyLIV, Fancode and 250+ Live TV channels at just ₹99 with OTTplay Premium's PowerPlay Pack for the first month.

While OTTplay was the first to reveal that the streaming platform had bagged the digital rights of the two Malayalam films, the release dates of the two films were not revealed. But now, along with the latest trailer of Malayalee from India, which will be available on SonyLIV from July 5, the platform announced that Mammootty’s Turbo will be an August release, followed by Thalavan that will begin streaming as an Onam release in September. The exact dates are yet to be confirmed.

SonyLIV bags OTT rights of Turbo and Thalavan

Lately, Sony LIV has been on a signing spree, bagging the rights of several big Malayalam movies. Its most recent release was the Pranav Mohanlal and Dhyan Sreenivasan-starrer Varshangalkku Shesham that had dropped in June. Based on the strategy, its subscribers can expect at least one big Malayalam film every month for the rest of the year.

Sony LIV, which is also available on OTTplay Premium’s Powerplay Pack, will also begin streaming at least two Malayalam web series later this year including Saiju Kurup’s Jai Mahendran and Krishand’s Sambhavavivaranam Nalarasangham aka The Chronicles of the 4.5 Gang.

Meanwhile, Mammootty’s Turbo, which has Raj B Shetty and a voiceover by Vijay Sethupathi, is an action-entertainer that will be streaming in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada. Thalavan, which also has Asif Ali , is also expected to be released in the four South languages. Both movies are also expected to get a sequel.

Reasons to watch Malayalee from India on Sony LIV

Malayalee from India, which is a comedy-drama helmed by Jana Gana Mana director Dijo Jose Anthony, revolves around an indolent youth whose biases are challenged after he is forced to leave the country and live with a Pakistani man amid the pandemic. The film, while fashioned as an entertainer, also deals with several relevant topics - making it an enjoyable watch, even though the second half might appear stretched due to its limited setting.
