Fans keenly looking forward to the release of Mammootty’s drama-thriller Puzhu might have to wait a bit longer. The Ratheena PT directorial, which was rumoured to release in April, has now been pushed to May, according to a source close to the movie.

The film, which is set to mark the megastar’s first direct-to-OTT movie, is an intense family thriller revolving around a father and son, who have underlying trust issues. The movie, which also has Parvathy Thiruvothu in the lead role, also has Mammootty playing a negative role after a huge gap.

A source close to the team tells OTTplay that contrary to the rumours, the movie will not drop on the streaming platform in April. Meanwhile, in an interview with Malayala Manorama, the film’s director Ratheena had talked about its OTT release, saying that being her debut film, she too had wished it would be released in theatres.

“However, we have to adhere to the changes that come with time. OTTs have been a huge blessing during the pandemic and they were the reason that people could enjoy films even during that time. I believe all changes are good,” she said, adding that the ultimate aim – be it through a theatre or an OTT release – is for the film to reach the audience.

While Puzhu might be delayed, Sony LIV will have another Malayalam release coming up with Saiju Kurup’s Antakshari. The platform had last month also dropped Salute that marked Dulquer Salmaan’s first direct-to-OTT debut. Dulquer is also co-producing Puzhu with S George.

Mammootty will have a theatrical release coming up with K Madhu’s CBI 5: The Brain set to hit theatres on April 28. The movie’s teaser will be out soon. The megastar’s latest release Bheeshma Parvam dropped on Disney+ Hotstar on April 1 and is now available to stream in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi.
