Sonam Kapoor is set to grace the stage at King Charles III’s coronation concert on May 7, along with global icons Tom Cruise, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie. The National Award-winning actress has been invited to join the coronation ceremony, and is expected to deliver a speech introducing Steve Winwood and the Commonwealth virtual choir. The concert will be streamed by BBC Studios.

King Chrales III will be formally crowned as a monarch at Westminster Abbey in London on May 6. The ceremony will also include a concert including global icons celebrating the historic occasion.

“I am honoured to join the Commonwealth virtual choir for this ceremony, celebrating His Majesty’s love for music and art. It’s a momentous occasion that signifies a commitment to a positive, inclusive, and optimistic future for the United Kingdom, with the Choir’s music paying tribute to the royal legacy and promoting unity, peace, and joy,” Sonam said in a statement.

According to reports, Sonam’s speech will serve as a prelude to the inspiring virtual choir performance by the Commonwealth - made up of choirs, solo artists and duos from the 56 Commonwealth countries, alongside Steve Winwood, who will perform a modern version of his iconic song Higher Love accompanied by a 70-piece orchestra.

“The Service will be conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury. As previously announced, the Service will reflect the Monarch's role today and look towards the future while being rooted in longstanding traditions and pageantry,” read the Buckingham Palace’s release.

Hosted by Downton Abbey and Paddington star Hugh Bonneville, Sonam will be the only Indian participating in the ceremony. Among the other artistes performing at the concert are Andrea Bocelli, Bryn Terfel, Freya Ridings, Alexis French, as well as a collaboration of five royal patronages, among others. Joan Collins and Tom Jones will feature via pre-recorded video messages.

While this will be Sonam’s first royal appearance, Tom was a guest at Princess Diana’s funeral in 1997, Pooh was invited to a children’s garden party at Buckingham Palace for Queen Elizabeth II’s 80th anniversary in 2006 and Pussycat Dolls lead Nicole Scherzinger took part in a pageant in honour of Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee last year.
