Sonam Kapoor reveals why having a child is a ‘very selfish decision’

Sonam Kapoor recently graced the cover of a fashion publication, and on August 20, she gave birth to her son.

Sonam Kapoor and her husband Anand Ahuja welcomed a baby boy on August 20. Sonam had shared the news on her social media page, with the note, "On 20.08.2022, we welcomed our beautiful baby boy with bowed heads and open hearts. Thank you to all of the doctors, nurses, friends and family who have supported us on this journey. It’s only the beginning, but we know our lives are forever changed (sic).”

Soon after, fashion magazine Vogue, released Sonam's unbuttoned-shirt cover photograph from her most recent photo session. Sonam had shared her thoughts about becoming a parent before the birth of her child to the magazine.

In the picture, Sonam, who seems to be wearing almost no make-up, is seen smiling and caressing her growing baby bump. Speaking about her choice of having children, Sonam had told the magazine that priorities do change and that that the child will become mine. "The truth of the matter is that they didn’t choose to come into this world. You decided to bring them here, so it’s a very selfish decision.”

Sonam had earlier discussed her struggles of the first three months of pregnancy with Indian Express, “This journey to motherhood has been rather tough, particularly the first three months. They were difficult in ways I wasn’t expecting. No one ever tells how challenging this journey would be."

She added how she has been experiencing nausea and weariness and her body is changing nearly everyday. She also mentioned how it disrupted her sleep because she often can’t get out of bed for 10 to 12 hours straight and sometimes has to use the restroom in the middle of the night. Despite all of these shifts, she stated that she had never loved, accepted, nor taken better care of her body and health.

Meanwhile, Anil Kapoor wrote a statement on behalf of his entire family expressing his joy at the baby's arrival. The message said, “We are delighted to announce, on the 20th August, the arrival of the newest member of our family, Sonam and Anand have been blessed with a healthy baby boy and we couldn't be more elated. Our hearts are bursting with pride and love for the new parents and their beautiful angel.” He described himself and his wife, Sunita Kapoor, as “doting grandparents”.
