Maharani made its way to the silver screen for another thrilling new season, as Huma Qureshi’s Rani Bharti grapples to hold on to her throne. The series features Sohum Shah as Rani’s husband and former CM Bheema, a role he reprised on the show’s second season. The actor recently opened up about his experience returning to the show’s sets.
In conversation with Pinkvilla, Shah referred to being back on the show’s sets as a ‘picnic’ for him. After working on the first season, the actor said he had formed a good bond with his co-stars Qureshi, Amit Sial and creator Subhash Kapoor. “So I enjoy a lot working with them and it feels like I am home”, said Shah.
The actor spoke of how much fun the team had shooting for the show in Bhopal during the winter. Although the show featured the return of the much loved characters from season 1, the second season also introduced some new faces. He spoke of a character named Kirti, essayed by Anuja Sathe. Shah revealed that he shares a lot of scenes with Sathe, calling her a ‘great actress’. Saying that new characters surprised him, the actor said that new people always made the project more fun.
On his own character, the actor said Bheema was ‘powerful, courageous, shrewd, and charming’ and season 2 saw many old characters get much more developed than how they started. Shah said that Bheema was in ‘full form’ in the second season, trying to get back his ‘empire’. The actor also praised the writing this season as well.
The first two seasons of Maharani are available for streaming on SonyLIV. The series, directed by Ravindra Gautam, also features Vineet Kumar, Pramod Pathak, Kani Kusruti, Anuja Sathe, Neha Chauhan, Sushil Pandey and Dibyendu Bhattacharya in pivotal roles.
