Sobhita Dhulipala revealed that she is worlds apart from her character.
When the second season of Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti's web series Made in Heaven debuted, Sobhita Dhulipala received major criticism for her portrayal of the wedding planner Tara Khanna. Many viewers felt she performed a poor job of acting in the series, while others claimed she "did not act" at all and was essentially playing herself.
Sobhita reimagines her role:
Sobhita recently gave an interview to Film Companion, during which she discussed her ambition to reimagine her role as Tara. She mused that it would be intriguing to show the same Tara in the same situation but with a different attitude. The actor questioned what would happen if her character was curt and sarcastic instead of icy and loud. The way others see Sobhita might change as a result of this, too; because of her naturally icy demeanour, viewers may mistakenly believe that she acted naturally throughout the film. The actor wants it to be clear that she is not some kind of psychotic bitch.

Sobhita also said that it's sad that people think she became noticed in the mainstream through Made in Heaven expanding on the influence the film and her role have had on her personal and professional lives. The actor added that Tara is a brilliantly written character, yet she couldn't be more different from her in real life.
Contrasting personalities:
Sobhita remarked that she is a mess, yet she expresses herself freely and openly, while Tara is remote and icy. The actor could be going through terrible emotional anguish, but she won't let it break her.
Sobhita went on to say that playing a character like Tara is more difficult than acting as someone who shows their feelings freely. She mentioned that although Tara's character is meant to be emotionally tough, actors still have to show their emotions on screen.
Challenges of avoiding being typecast:
The actor acknowledged that this trait was often used to describe her, and she expressed her desire to play roles with a wide range of temperaments. She may have just committed her body to a fictional character, but Sobhita is in no way like Tara. There are times when she asks herself, "What would Tara do?" because she admires the way she puts herself first and refuses to accept the role of victim. She also mentioned how unsettling it may be when an actor's personality gets inextricably linked to a fictional role.
Meanwhile, Sobhita's first full-length work in English, titled Monkey Man is about to be released. The Dev Patel-helmed action film can soon be streamed on Netflix.
