In a shocking announcement on November 5 (Sunday), the metal band officially announced the departure of their drummer Jay Weinberg on their website and social media accounts. Weinberg became a part of the rock band a year later after Joey Jordison’s exit in 2013 and is nearly parting his ways after a decade.
A creative decision
The rock band updated fans on their decision and their new approach towards evolving. The official team expressed their gratitude towards the drummer for his passion and dedicated work for the past 10 years. In a statement, it was also reflected that the decision is taken as a means to evolve.
Taking to the Instagram stories and post, the band wrote, “We would like to thank Jay Weinberg for his dedication and passion over the past ten years. No one can ever replace Joey Jordison’s original sound, style, or energy, but Jay honored Joey’s parts and contributed to the last three albums and we, the band, and the fans appreciate it. But as ever, Slipknot is intent on evolving. The band has decided to make a creative decision and to part ways with Jay. We wish Jay all the best and are very excited for what the future holds.”
Jay Weinberg and Slipknot collaboration
The 33-year-old drummer teamed up with the masked band Slipknot in 2014, a year later after its founding member Joey Jordison parted his ways. The group had officially announced his exit in December 2013.
Jay Weinberg collaborated with the band on several albums like, The End, So Far, which was unveiled last year, We Are Not Your Kind (2019), and The Gray Chapter in his debut year with the band (2014).
Weinberg’s music talent passed on from his percussionist father Max Weinberg and is renowned for his lively drumming style. Fans are still reeling from the shocking announcement. As of now, Jay Weinberg has not responded to the exit announcement.
The music group was founded in 1995 and its original members included drummer Joey Jordison, percussionist Shawn Crahan, and bass player Paul Gray, who passed away in the year 2010.
