‘The Kashmir Files’ makers criticised by Asha Parekh
Legendary Bollywood actress, Asha Parekh has criticised the makers of The Kashmir Files. During a recent interview, Parekh questioned why the controversial film’s profits were not used to aid the Kashmiri pandits. The film written and directed by Vivek Agnihotri, became a blockbuster hit grossing over ₹400 crores at the Indian box office. Agnihotri has been accused by a few of using the plight of the Kashmiri pandits to promote his film. Parekh also questioned as to why not even ₹50 crores were donated.
Regina Cassandra has been cast in Ajith’s next film ‘Vidaamuyarchi’
Tamil actress Regina Cassandra has been cast in one of the lead roles in the upcoming film Vidaamuyarchi. The film is directed by Magizh Thirumeni and stars Tamil superstar Ajith in the lead. The film also stars Trisha in one of the lead roles. According to reports, filming has already commenced in Azerbaijan. However, further details about the film have been kept under wraps.
Aamir Khan replaces Farhan Akhtar in ‘Campeones’ remake ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’
It was recently reported that Bollywood star Aamir Khan was working on a new project titled Sitaare Zameen Par. According to new reports, it is the much-rumoured remake of Campeones, the 2018 Spanish sports drama. It is also being speculated that Khan, apart from serving as the film’s producer, will also replace Farhan Akhtar as the film’s lead actor. The film is directed by R S Prasanna and it revolves around a sports coach who trains a group of differently-abled children.
‘The Spiderwick Chronicles’ picked up by Roku after Disney+ cancellation
Disney+ recently announced that they would not be moving forward with the series adaptation of The Spiderwick Chronicles. The news came as a shock to fans of the franchise created by
Holly Black and Tony DiTerlizzi as the eight-episode series had already completed filming. However, fans of the novels can breathe a sigh of relief as Roku has picked up the series and will premiere it in 2024.
Michael Mann confirms ‘Heat’ sequel
Filmmaker Michael Mann, who recently helmed the sports drama biopic Ferrari, has announced his next project. While speaking at the Contenders London event, Mann confirmed that a sequel to the hit 1995 crime drama Heat is in development. He also confirmed that Meg Gardiner has co-written the script along with him and that Ferrari lead star Adam Driver could play the lead in the film which is presently titled Heat 2. Driver could essay the role of a young Neil McCauley, which was played by Robert De Niro in the original film. The film will be set in two timelines – before and after the events of the first film.
Netflix announces documentary on Mattel’s ‘Black Barbie’
Shondaland, the production company owned by filmmaker and producer Shonda Rhimes, is set to create its next Netflix original. Shondaland is credited with popular shows such as Bridgerton and Inventing Anna, and will now helm a new documentary on ‘Black Barbie’. The announcement comes just weeks after the blockbuster film Barbie grossed over $1.4 billion at the international box office. The upcoming documentary will focus on Barbie toy manufacturer Mattel’s decision to introduce Black dolls to its Barbie collection. The docu is titled Black Barbie: A Documentary and will be directed by Lagueria Davis.
