Written and directed by Venky Atluri, the campus drama had music by GV Prakash Kumar
One of the biggest hits that Telugu cinema has earned this year, Sir, provided a solid foundation for Dhanush in a new industry. Venky Atluri, after multiple disappointments like Rang De and Mr Majnu, found his mojo again in a campus drama that took on the ills within the education system and commented on how corporates have reduced it to a business.
Samyuktha (Menon) played the female lead in the film produced by S Naga Vamsi and Sai Soujanya under Sithara Entertainments and Fortune Four Cinemas. Despite releasing in the pre-exam season, the film attracted impressive footfalls in theatres across Tamil and Telugu. One of the major reasons behind the popularity of the film was its terrific album by GV Prakash Kumar - songs like Mastaaru Mastaaru, Banjara were a rage among listeners.
After its theatrical run where it grossed over Rs 100 crores, Sir premiered on Netflix recently. Now, the film is gearing up for its small-screen premiere on Gemini TV. Sir will be telecast on the channel this Sunday at 6 pm. Given the familiar yet engaging treatment with a good social message and adequate doses of action, romance, humour and drama, Sir is expected to register good TRPs for its television premiere.
Sai Kumar, Tanikella Bharani, Samuthirakani, Thotapalli Madhu, Narra Srinivas, Pammi Sai, Hyper Aadhi, Shara, Aadukalam Naren, Ilavarasu, Motta Rajendran, Hareesh Peradi and Praveena played other important roles in Sir. J Yuvraj cranked the camera for the film which was edited by award-winning technician Navin Nooli. Venkat is the action choreographer.
“Dhanush is a perfect fit for a film that leads the charge against the corporates on viewing ‘education’ as a business and not making it affordable to all. Venky Atluri’s message-driven tale doesn’t tell anything out of the box, but goes about the proceedings with earnestness and sprinkles the narrative with a handful of commercial liberties,” OTTplay.com wrote in its review.
