In an era where films and stories around the lives of naxals are not believed to have takers, director Shyam Tummalapalli’s Sindhooram, which released on January 26, sprung a surprise. Starring Dharma Mahesh, Brigida Saga and Sivabalaji in the lead, the film took a brave stance against communism and discussed many issues that have contributed to the dilution of the naxal movement over the years. Despite the absence of popular faces, the film has made noise amongst the public for the right reasons.

Sindhooram released in only a handful of theatres earlier this week but the positive response has prompted the exhibitors to increase the show count in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. A speech of a noted politician, where he disses the communist ideology and explains its failure in many countries, on the same lines as Sindhooram has contributed to the buzz around the film. The film received positive responses from critics as well.

The strength of the film, apart from the performances, is its power-packed dialogues. The sequences where both the lead protagonists clash over their ideologies are a delight to watch, in particular. The supporting cast, comprising Ravi Varma, Ananda Chakrapani, Dayanand Reddy, Naga Mahesh, Keshav Deepak, also received praise for their impactful portrayal. The director Shyam is a noted cinematographer as well and has worked on a few Hindi and Telugu films in the past.

Produced by Praveen Reddy Janga under Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Movie Makers, the film is written by Kishore Sri Krishna. Gowra Hari scored the music while Kesav is the cinematographer. Jesvin Prabu is the editor and Chaitanya Kandula and Subbareddy M are the co-producers.
