The first part of the comedy about black magic, Avatara Purusha Ashtadigbandhana Mandalaka came out in May 2022
It’s been more than a year since Kannada actor Sharan’s Avatara Purusha Ashtadigbandhana Mandalaka came to theatres. The two-part comedy about black magic by director Simple Suni was planned to be released about 100-days apart, but when the first one came out, production on the second was not complete. Even then, following its release in May 2022, Suni and Sharan were confident of a Dasara release that year, as the VFX work on the second instalment were more time consuming.
Sharan’s Avatara Purusha 2 not shelved; in post-production, says director Suni
As the months passed by, there was no news from the makers, and rumours emerged that the delay was mostly owing to a financial crisis with the production house. At the time, OTTplay was told that the film was about 80% complete and that production would be resumed once Sharan was done with his home production Guru Shishyaru. In May this year, there was speculation that Avatara Purusha 2 would release by December and we are now told that this plan is currently in motion, although a final date has not been fixed.
When we checked in with Suni, the filmmaker confirmed that the film is complete. “We are targeting December. The film is ready and we have applied for censor certification as well. However, we are looking at bringing it to theatres after Sharan sir’s Choo Mantar,” says Suni. Choo Mantar is a horror comedy that Sharan has done with Karva maker Navaneeth, in which he plays an exorcist.
Avatara Purusha revolves around the family of Rama Jois (Sai Kumar) whose young son goes missing at a temple fair. Years later, his estranged sister’s daughter brings a cine junior artiste to pretend to be the long lost son. But turns out that the artiste, Anila, has an agenda in coming to the Jois family, as they are the safekeepers of a magical stone – Trishanku – with immense powers. He, though, is not the only one after it and the second instalment of the film is set to explore this tussle between all the parties interested in getting their hands on it.
