Silambarasan's Maanaadu to get a sequel, the loop to continue?

As the film completes one year of release today, the makers have announced a  sequel to the Venkat Prabhu directorial

It's been a year since Silambarasan TR's blockbuster film Maanaadu hit screens. The film, helmed by Venkat Prabhu, was a time loop action thriller, which was released after a prolonged delay due to the coronavirus-induced lockdown. The makers today released a montage video of the many moments of the making of the film, right from the inception of the idea, to the shoots coming to a halt during the pandemic, to delayed release to the film becoming a super hit.

The video also gives a glimpse of Silambarasan stating at an event, "You have been asking me to come back. I want to say that I am back and I was never away." But what caught many by surprise was the three works towards the end of the video, the loop continues. Fans of the actor are excited that a sequel for the film is in the offing. The plot of Maanaadu revolves around a common man and a police officer (played by SJ Suryah), who are stuck in a time loop before an event involving the Chief Minister of the state and continue to relive the moments again and again.SJ Suryah had won laurels for his performance in the film.

Maanaadu marked Venkat Prabhu's maiden collaboration with Silambarasan. The film had Kalyani Priyadarshan as the leading lady. The supporting cast includes SA Chandrasekar, YG Mahendran, Vaagai Chandrasekar, Premgi Amaren, Karunakaran, Subbu Panchu, Manoj Bharathiraja, Badava Gopi to name a few. Music for the film is by Yuvan Shankar Raja. While cinematography is by Richard M Nathan, editing is by Praveen KL. The film turned out to be a massive success at the box office.

Silambarasan, in the meantime, recently wrapped up the shoot for his upcoming release, Pathu Thala, helmed by Obeli Krishna. His last release was Gautham Menon's action entertainer Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu. The film is currently streaming on Prime Video.
