Silambarasan's Maanaadu and Sasikumar's Rajavamsam to face the brunt of TN govt's latest precaution against COVID?

After a four-month hiatus, the Tamil Nadu government had reopened theatres in the last week of August with 50 per cent occupancy, though major Tamil films started hitting the screens only in the second week of September. From November 1, they had granted permission to screen movies with 100 per cent occupancy. This helped Rajinikanth's Annaatthe and Vishal-Arya's Enemy which released on Deepavali.

However, looks like the government and health officials have decided to step up precautions against COVID-19. It is now made mandatory that people should submit their certificate of having completed two doses of vaccine to visit public places.

This has put the makers of Silambarasan-starrer Maanaadu and Sasikumar-starrer Rajavamsam in a spot. The former will hit the screens on November 25 while the latter will have a theatrical release on November 26. The makers of both the films had pinned high hopes on their projects.

With the new rule being implemented and monitored on a strict basis by the authorities concerned, it has to be seen whether it will have a significant effect on the box office prospects of both the movies. Maanaadu a political thriller, was initially supposed to hit the screens on November 4, while Rajavamsam, a family drama, was earlier slotted as a release on October 14.

In his tweet, Suresh Kamatchi, the producer of Maanaadu came down heavily on this sudden move by the government. The translated version of his tweet read, "I think this is the first place where certificate of vaccine doses are asked mandatorily from people before entering movie halls. This is nothing but a clear case of violation of one's freedom. People should be allowed in theatres like they have been permitted till date."
