The shoot is expected to begin by the end of this month
If the buzz in the industry is to go by, the shoot for Silambarasan TR's upcoming film Pathu Thala is all set to begin by the end of this month and the portions will be canned at a rapid pace. The film, directed by Obeli N Krishna of Sillunnu Oru Kadhal fame, is a remake of the Kannada film Mufti. Mufti (2017) is a neo-noir action thriller, which was directed by Narthan, marking his debut. The star cast included Shiva Rajkumar, Srimurali and Shanvi Srivasatava. The plot revolved around a police officer, who takes on a underworld don played by Shivanna. Interestingly, Mufti was one of the highest grossing films of Kannada star Shiva Rajkumar.
In the Tamil version, Silambarasan will be sharing screen space with Gautham Karthik. While Silambarasan will play the don in the Tamil version, Gautham Karthik will essay the role of a cop. Gautham has already wrapped up his portions, barring the combination scenes with Silambarasan. Interestingly, this is the first time that the duo is coming together for a film.
Gautham Karthik had shared a glimpse of Pathu Thala on the occasion of Silambarasan TR's birthday in February. He had written on his social media handle, "Wishing my brother #STR a very VERY Happy Birthday! Here is a small glimpse of #PathuThala https://youtu.be/62lgelB1hh4 #HBDSilambarasanTR #PathuThalaGlimpse (sic)."
Priya Bhavani Shankar will play the leading lady in Pathu Thala. The rest of the star cast includes Kalaiarasan, Manushiyaputhiran, Soundararaja and Teejay Arunasalam. Music for the film is by AR Rahman. The composer will score music for director Krishna after a long hiatus of 15 years.
Silambarasan has a slew of films in his kitty, including Gautham Menon's Vendhu Thanindhadhu Kaadu, a cameo in Hansika's Maha and Corona Kumar. He was last seen in Maanaadu, directed by Venkat Prabhu. The film, set in a time loop, went on to become a hit at the box office.
