The shoot for Silambarasan's upcoming film Pathu Thala was put on hold as the actor was in the US for the medical treatment of his father, actor-director-producer T Rajendhar. The film directed by Obeli N Krishna is the remake of the Kannada hit Mufti. Sharing a picture with Silambarasan who met him after he returned from the US, Krishna wrote on his social media handle, "All set for #pathuthala shoot with bro @SilambarasanTR_ feeling happy for recovery of his dad @kegvraja@StudioGreen2 @Gautham_Karthik @arrahman @PenMovies @NehaGnanavel @Dhananjayang (sic)." The picture of the duo is now doing the rounds on the internet and fans of Silambarasan are excited that the shoot will kickstart again.

The Kannada film Mufti (2017), a neo-noir action thriller, was directed by debutant director Narthan. The star cast comprises Shiva Rajkumar, Srimurali and Shanvi Srivasatava. The plot of the film revolves around a police officer, who takes on a don essayed by Shivanna. The film was a huge hit at the box office. The Tamil version, on the other hand, has Silambarasan and Gautham Karthik teaming up for a film for the first time. Gautham had wrapped up his portions earlier. However, his combination scenes with STR remain pending. The star cast also includes Priya Bhavani Shankar, Kalaiyarasan, Manushiyaputhiran and Teejay Arunasalam. The film marks the reunion of Obeli Krishna with AR Rahman after a gap of 15 years after their last outing Sillunu Oru Kadhal. Pathu Thala is expected to be a Christmas release.

In the meantime, Silambarasan TR is awaiting the release of Gautham Menon's Vendhu Thanindhadhu Kaadu. The film has music by AR Rahman. This is the third collaboration of the trio after their previous ventures Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya and Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada. The film, produced by Vels Films International, will be distributed by Udhayandhi Stalin's Red Giant Movies. Vendhu Thanindhadhu Kaadu is slated to release on September 15.
