Param Vir Chakra Captain Vikram Batra was just 24 when he sacrificed his life for the country during the 1999 Kargil War. His codename Shershaah is the title of his biopic which stars Sidharth Malhotra in the titular role. Vikram's valour and bravery during the war have gone down in the history and a much-awaited biopic has finally made it to the screens. It's been just a few hours since Shershaah started streaming on Amazon Prime Video and many are drawing parallels between real and reel life.

Born as twins Vikram and Vishal Batra, while interviewing Sidharth Malhotra for Film Companion, Anupama Chopra had recalled, "One of the most moving things I read was in an interview, his mother said that when the twins were born she said that 'I didn't understand why God gave me two sons. But when Vikram passed away I understood that it was because one was for the country and one was for me."

A full of life person, Vikram was very filmy and before heading for the Kargil war, he had said, "Ya toh tiranga lehra kar Aaunga, ya phir tirange mein lipatkar... Lekin wapis jarur aaunga."

Earlier in an interview with The Quint, retired Captain Naveen Nagappa, who served with Vikram in Kargil shared that an enemy taunted the Indian Army by saying 'Humein Madhuri Dixit de do, toh hum yeh feature chodenge'. He narrated that Captain Vikram Batra replied by firing from his machine gun and said 'with love from Madhuri Dixit'.

Although he came back covered in tricolour, his words and bravery never left and stayed with people who were close to him. Vikram is remembered by his family and close friends and several people of the country who witnessed the unforgettable Kargil war via their televisions.

Apart from being a braveheart, Vikram Batra was a cheesy romantic person too. His love story with Dimple Cheema is heartwarming and heartbreaking as she never married anyone else after losing Vikram. They had planned to get married after he returned from the Kargil war but fate had other plans.

While talking to The Quint, Dimple remembered one instance and shared that when she raised the issue of marriage as she felt insecure, Vikram did something which makes her call him 'pura filmy'. She said, "Without saying anything, he took a blade out of his wallet, cut his thumb and filled my ‘maang’ with his blood."
