You certainly sense the magic in the writing, especially in the case of Shyam Singha Roy, in the romantic track revolving around the title character and Rosie, played by Nani and Sai Pallavi. What better tool than a song to further their on-screen romance in the film? Sirivennela, the last ever sung lyricised by Sirivennela Seetharama Sastri, leaves a spellbinding impact regardless of the number of times you watch it. The video version of the song was released yesterday.

The song gradually takes you through the blossoming romance between a social reformer Shyam Singha Roy and a devadasi named Mythreyi (who is later renamed as Rosie by her love interest, husband). Sirivennela, like the song title says, is shot mostly during the nights when Rosie escapes the sight of her fellow devadasis to spend time with Shyam Singha Roy. The moonlit romance, where the characters bond over a boat ride, time spent amidst nature, makes for a soul-warming experience on the screen and has you craving for more.

Nani and Sai Pallavi, who effortlessly slip into the skin of their well-written characters, are an absolute joy to watch in Sirivennela. They show the right measure of vulnerability, innocence to invest in their poetic romance. Anurag Kulkarni, probably the most popular Telugu singer at the moment, does full justice to the emotion in the number while the innate simplicity and emotional depth in Sirivennela Seetharama Sastri's lyrics are its lifelines. Mickey J Meyer continues his glorious form as a melody maker yet again with a fantastic album like Shyam Singha Roy.

Directed by Rahul Sankrityan and produced by Venkat Boyanapalli of Niharika Entertainment, Shyam Singha Roy also stars Krithi Shetty, Madonna Sebastian and Rahul Ravindran. The film will premiere on Netflix across all South Indian languages on January 21.
