The once-long running and very popular crime drama series Dexter petered out with an underwhelming season finale that left the loyal fans of the Showtime series disappointed. And now, Showtime has admitted officially that the makers might have failed to do ‘justice’ to the season finale back in 2013.

The riveting series based on the plot on the dual life of Dexter Morgan, a forensic technician working in the fictional Miami Metro Police Department by the day and a serial killer by the night, offing unpunished criminals, put a close on the season in 2013 but is to be back soon. As per a report by The Hollywood Reporter, Gary Levine, the entertainment president of Showtime opened up on Dexter. In his statement at the TCA press tour, he described Dexter as a ‘jewel in the crown of Showtime’ and they were looking at how to make it right. “It took a long time to figure out what that was,” he said, adding that to have Michael C Hall back to reprise the role took its time too. The Showtime show’s Dexter Morgan said at the event that revisiting the show majorly depends on the lack of a definitive end or closure.

Speaking at a panel discussion, Michael C Hall, who plays the titular role of Dexter, also added how the feedback for the finale was a major motivation behind revisiting the show with Dexter: New Blood. “We didn’t hear from Dexter at the end, and it left audiences in a kind of suspended animation,” he said. President Gary Levine went on to term the series as not a ‘limited series’ but a ‘special event series that is a befitting finale to the series’. “For me, it’s revisiting Dexter and giving a proper finale for a brilliant series,” he said.

On being asked about the American television network considering a spinoff, if not a sequel, Levine left the decision to the future, while Hall added that he hopes that the show is a “satisfying experience” for the fans.

Dexter: New Blood is slated for premiere on November 7 at 9 pm on Showtime.
