Jeethu Joseph's courtroom drama also stars Priyamani as the female lead
The shoot for Neru, directed by Jeethu Joseph and starring Mohanlal began on August 17. This coincides with the auspicious month of Chingam on the Malayalam calendar. Mohanlal recently shared stills from the puja on his Facebook page, seeking prayers and blessings for the project.
About Neru
Neru is a courtroom drama that has been scripted by Drishyam 2 actress Santhi Mayadevi. It is her debut as a screenplay writer. Priyamani plays the female lead in the film and has been paired with Mohanlal. They were last seen together in B Unnikrishnan's 2012 film Grandmaster.
Neru is bankrolled by Aashirvad Cinemas, which backed Jeethu's Drishyam, Drishyam 2, and 12th Man. Neru marks the fifth collaboration between the Drishyam director and Mohanlal.
Earlier, there were rumours about Neru being the third instalment of the Drishyam franchise, but Jeethu denied it in an exclusive chat with OTTplay. The title poster of Neru features a braille book placed near a statue of Lady Justice and a gavel.

Neru and Ram
Jeethu began work on Neru after the shooting of Ram, starring Mohanlal, came to a standstill. Ram has been in the filming stage since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the film has unfinished portions in countries like Tunisia and the UK. The project seems to be stalled for the time being due to problems like unfavourable weather and scheduling conflicts.
Mohanlal's Malaikottai Vaaliban, Barroz, Vrushabha, and Empuraan
Meanwhile, Mohanlal's upcoming releases are Malaikottai Vaaliban and Barroz. Malaikottai Vaaliban is a mass film that will appeal to the actor's fans after a series of box office failures. His directorial debut, Barroz, is a children's fantasy 3D film that is slated to hit theatres in December.

The post-production work on Barroz is underway outside India, and it looks like Mohanlal is not making any compromises regarding the technical quality of the film. The actor is currently shooting his pan-Indian action film Vrushabha and is expected to join the sets of Prithviraj's Empuraan at the end of September, after completing Neru.
