Shoojit Sircar collaborates with Abhishek Bachchan – All you need to know about the National award winner’s upcoming film

Shoojit Sircar and Abhishek Bachchan's next film is expected to release in 2024

Shoojit Sircar is back and this time he is collaborating with Abhishek Bachchan. The National Award-winning director’s last movie was Uddham Singh featuring Vicky Kaushal in the lead role. Shoojit, who is also the mastermind behind Vicky Donor, Piku and October, spoke about his next movie with Abhishek Bachchan in an interview.

About the project

Shoojit revealed to The Quint that the movie is an emotional, slice-of-life film (expected to release this year). He points out how all of his movies are about life but there’s always good humour in all of his projects. The director adds, “I have always tried to experiment with different genres, keeping the journey of life as the main theme.” Revealing that his next is with Abhishek Bachchan, he shared, “I will take you on a mundane, ordinary man's journey. Maybe we’ll see and smile with him.”

Shoojit remembers casting Ayushmann Khurrana in Vicky Donor

Back in 2012, speaking about sperm donation was still a taboo in India. However, Shoojit along with Ayushmann Khurrana and John Abraham was determined to change the narrative. He spoke about how well-known faces agreed that the story was good but would not like to play the role of a sperm donor. Ayushmann, who was looking for an opportunity to make his debut in the industry, left an impression on Shoojit, who had not even heard of Ayushmann’s name or seen him (Shoojit was shown a picture of Ayushmann before the casting process) when introduced to him (Ayushmann had done Roadies and was recognized for that at that given point). As Shoojit got to know Ayushmann, he was sure that the actor could ace the role of a quintessential Delhi boy. Similarly with Irrfan and Amitabh Bachchan, Shoojit approached them and the actors were ready to do Piku. He believes in actors surrendering to his idea and he believes Vicky Kaushal did the same. Shoojit found clumsiness in Varun, because of which October happened.
