The film had got released in UK on May 19
The Adah Sharma-starrer film ‘The Kerala Story’, which has been making headlines ever since its release, is now facing fresh disruptions. Based on the premise of ‘love jihad’, the Sudipto Sen directorial follows a ‘group of women from Kerala, who are coerced into converting to Islam and join ISIS’. Despite the backlash, the movie - which also stars Yogita Bihani, Sonia Balani and Siddhi Idnani - has managed to cross the ₹100-crore mark at the box-office. In an exclusive interview with OTTplay, Adah also said that she was happy to see the film being released in foreign countries. However, in the latest developments, shows of The Kerala Story were cancelled in the UK.
According to reports, activists entered the theatres where the film was being screened and disrupted shows. Apparently, they also bullied the audience who were inside the cinemas. Taking to Twitter, a London-based journalist and researcher Robert Carter posted a video, and wrote, “BREAKING: Chaotic scenes at UK screening of controversial anti-Muslim Indian movie The Kerala Story. Muslim activist @ShakeelAfsar8 disrupts film, sparking furious arguments with viewers. #TheKeralaStory has been condemned as ‘Hindutva propaganda’ depicting Muslims as terrorists & ‘love Jihad.’ #TheKeralaStoryMovie #India #UK #Hindutva”.

Shows of The Kerala Story got cancelled last week in the UK, as the film couldn’t get the mandatory age classification from the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC). The body had reportedly given the film an 18 rating, in addition to detailed content advice to the film’s viewers. On home turf, the film - produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah - seems to be performing well at the box-office so far.
Of late, what one has observed is that, the social media handle of Adah Sharma is now filled with many of the BTS images from the film ‘The Kerala Story’, which is getting good traction from her fans and followers on social media.
