When the trailer of Century Star Shivarajkumar’s action heist thriller Ghost came out, everyone was astounded to hear the Kannada actor’s voice in all five versions of it. But then, when the sequence involving popular Malayalam and Tamil actor Jayaram came, it turned out that it was not his voice in any trailer, not even in the Malayalam version. This seemed strange, considering that director MG Srinivas had shared brief videos of the actor dubbing for the Kannada version. At the time, when OTTplay checked in with Srini, he had said that Jayaram could not dub for all versions because he was not in the country at the time.

Revealed: The ‘heist’ element of Shivarajkumar’s Ghost, as film’s synopsis emerges online

Speaking to OTTplay, Jayaram tells us that he has dubbed for the Kannada and Tamil versions only. “Tamil is my mother tongue, so that was not an issue, but Kannada is still an alien language. My character in the film is a Kannadiga, so I could not get away with a heavily-accented version. I had to sound like a localite, so I put in the effort to learn a fair bit of the language, the intonations and pronounciations required to make it as authentic as possible. I think I have done a decent job, based on the feedback that I got from the team,” Jayaram tells us. But what about the Malayalam version then, we ask. “Well, I have not dubbed for it and from what I understand, the Malayalam version is only for the OTT release. In Kerala, it is the Tamil version that will come out and that has Shivanna’s voice as well,” he adds.

Ghost: THIS is when advance booking of Shivarajkumar’s action heist thriller starts

Ghost, which is Jayaram’s Kannada debut, will release in theatres across the country on October 19, except in Andhra Pradesh/Telangana, where it will come a week later, owing to a paucity of screens during Dasara. The action-heist thriller, which unfolds in a prison, also stars Anupam Kher and Archana Jois.
