The Kannada original version of the Mufti prequel, Bhairathi Ranagal released on November 15, and now, the Tamil and Telugu versions will hit theatres
Bhairathi Ranagal, the Shivarajkumar-led prequel of the 2017 film Mufti, released in theatres on November 15 in its Kannada original version. During the promotions, the Century Star had said that dubbing work for other language versions was underway, and now, the team is ready to bring 2 to theatres. On November 29, the Tamil and Telugu versions of Bhairathi Ranagal will be released. A Tamil release effectively rules out the possibility of a remake, even though Mufti got a version led by Silambarasan and Gautam Karthik.
Bhairathi Ranagal movie review: Shivarajkumar-led Mufti prequel is like very flat soda
Directed by Narthan, Bhairathi Ranagal explores Shivarajkumar’s character right from childhood – why the upliftment of Ronapura and its people is sacrosanct to him and how he goes from being a lawyer to a machete-wielding gangster. The film paired him with Rukmini Vasanth, while Rahul Bose was roped in as the main antagonist. Madhu Guruswamy, Babu Hirannaiah and Chaya Singh got to reprise their roles as Singa, Shabari and Vedavathi Ranagal, respectively. Also joining in as a new character was Shabeer Kallarakkal.
Initially, Narthan had planned Bhairathi Ranagal as both a prequel and sequel, but eventually ended up keeping it only to the backstory of the character. The filmmaker and Shivarajkumar have both confirmed that a Mufti sequel is on the cards, but that they are yet to freeze on a suitable course of direction for the subject, as it has to explore what becomes of Ranagal after his second jail term and Gana (Sriimurali), given that Ranagal was aware of his actual identity.
Shivarajkumar made THIS change to his Bhairathi Ranagal character in Mufti
Shivarajkumar is currently touring parts of Karnataka as part of celebrating the success of Bhairathi Ranagal, which is a home production for the actor. He will leave to the US shortly, for a surgery, and is expected to return by late January or February and resume work, with his immediate priorities being the untitled #Shivanna131 and his third home production, A for Anand, a children’s film based on the book Totto Chan: The Girl At the Window.
