Earlier today, the official social media handle of Geetha Pictures shared that the official Bhairathi Ranagal title design will be unveiled on March 5th in 'all languages'.
Shiva Rajkumar fans were to treated to a rather special announcement recently. On the eve of his 37th anniversary as an actor, the veteran superstar took to social media to announce that he will reprise his role as Bhairathi Ranagal from Mufti for a new film of the same name. And to make things better, Narthan who wrote and directed the 2017 film, will return to director's chair for the upcoming spin-off which is said to be both a prequel and sequel.
Shiva Rajkumar and his wife Geetha Shiva Rajkumar's home banner Geetha Pictures will be producing Bhairathi Ranagal as their second production venture. The entity began its journey only a few months ago with A. Harsha's Vedha which was a commercial success.
Earlier today, the official social media handle of Geetha Pictures shared that the official Bhairathi Ranagal title design will be unveiled on March 5th in 'all languages'. Until this point, it was assumed that the film would only release in Kannada considering that Mufti the predecessor to Bhairathi Ranagal, was never mounted or released as a pan-Indian film. Mufti was eventually dubbed and released in other Indian languages like Hindi and Bhojpuri but specifically for YouTube and a large section of the audience across the country is yet to grow aware of the film.
Shiva Rajkumar plays the crime boss Bhairathi Ranagal in Mufti who is chased after by an undercover police officer played by Sriimurali. Much of the film is about this cat-and-mouse dynamic between the two.
So, considering that the upcoming title design will be out in multiple languages, would it be safe to say that Bhairathi Rangal is a bona fide pan-Indian film? And should that be the case, shouldn't the makers try and promote Mufti first before the second instalment comes along? Well, judging by the comments on social media, fans and netizens certainly reckon that the dubbed versions of Mufti must be released on a top-tier OTT platform at the earliest.
As far as the Tamil version of Mufti is concerned, the film has already been remade in the language as Pathu Thala with Simbu playing Shivanna's character and Gautham Karthik playing Sriimurali's part. The film is set to release in theatres on 30 March 2023.
