The Century Star was speaking at the launch of the director-actor’s latest directorial UI
Real Star Upendra’s return to direction, which comes a good seven years after his last, Uppi2, was launched yesterday in the presence of two of his good friends, Century Star Shiva Rajkumar and Kiccha Sudeep, as well as others like Dhananjaya and Vasishta N Simha. Speaking at the event, Shiva Rajkumar, who has been directed by Upendra in Om and Preethse, spoke about how Om was a career-defining role for him.

“Uppi and I share a close bond. I am a big fan of his body of work. Right from Tharle Nan Maga I have seen all his films. His Om, in which I played the lead, is a film that gave my career a new and exciting direction. Uppi has a certain flair as far as making style goes. Back in 95, he was ahead of his time and showed people the possibilities of filmmaking as far as making goes. More importantly, making a film that remains trendy more than a quarter of a century later is quite an achievement and Om has that distinction. Today, if you were to watch Om, it will still feel like a new film – it’s that updated in terms of the script and making. It’s an honour and privilege that I got to play the character Satya in Om,” said Shiva Rajkumar.
Adding that Uppi is known to make cinema that is different not only in genre, but story and presentation too, the Hattrick Hero said that he was excited about the former’s return to direction after seven years. “The poster of his new film has a horse in it and it seems that Uppi’s back in the race with this film,” added Shiva Rajkumar, while also wishing the team all the best. The film is being produced by KP Sreekanth, who bankrolled the Century Star’s big hit Tagaru earlier.
