The trailer of Shekhar Home – a detective series inspired by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes – was dropped on August 1. Directed by Srijit Mukherji and Rohan Sippy, the web series features Kay Kay Menon in the lead. Ranvir Shorey is seen as the sleuth’s assistant and a doctor, Jayvrat Sahni. Besides, it also features Rasika Dugal, Kirti Kulhari, Rudranil Ghosh, Kaushik Sen, and others. The Jiocinema show will be dropped on August 14.
The trailer shows that several murders take place in and around Kolkata. The show captures the essence of a period piece. While it is inspired by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes, the makers clarified that the show is original fiction. Kay Kay plays an eccentric and brilliant detective. Ranveer plays his assistant/ partner Jayvrat Sahni. He is a doctor and is seen detecting the cause of death.
In a statement, Kay Kay said, “Shekhar’s character took me back to the good old days. I re-lived the memories of the time when social media was not even a thing. After reading the script and analysing this role, I was drawn to the complexity of unraveling mysteries. The series isn't just about solving crimes — it's also about exploring human nature in all its aspects- from love and loyalty to betrayal and deceit. Playing Shekhar was a pure delight. I’m excited to bring Shekhar to all of you.”
Rasika, who plays a key character in Mirzapur, plays Irabati – a strong woman character. There seems to be a subtle tension between her and Kay Kay Menon’s character.
Shekhar Home is a six-episode web series. It is set in the early 1990s in Bengal. The show is produced by BBC Studios Productions India.
