Sheeba Chadha on why she chose The Trial: ‘I got to wear a wig and contact lenses’

The highly-anticipated trailer for Kajol’s debut web series is finally out! She is the leading lady in Disney+ Hotstar’s upcoming legal and political drama series The Trial – Pyaar, Kanoon, Dhokha. Directed by Suparn Verma, it’s the Indian adaptation of CBS series The Good Wife helmed by Robert King and Michelle King.

Also featuring in the series as key characters are Jisshu Sengupta, Kubbra Sait, Sheeba Chadha, Alyy Khan and Gaurav Pandey, among others. The courtroom drama sees Kajol play Noyonika Sengupta - a housewife who decides to get back to work at a law firm, after a break of 13 years, in order to support her family when her husband is sent to jail.

Speaking at the trailer launch of the series in Mumbai earlier today, Sheeba revealed why she decided to be part of the project, although the reason was a funny one! “He [Suparn] called one day, and it [the story] sounded great. But the real reason I said yes to it was because I would get to wear a wig and contact lenses. So, yeah!,” laughed the Badhaai Do actress. Next, she will be seen in Mirzapur 3.

Kajol was quick to add to that. “We are all in this series because we are looking good,” she joked.

Also present at the event was Kajol’s husband, actor-director Ajay Devgn, who is one of the producers of the show. Commenting on her OTT debut, Kajol said, “The answer is very simple, I have always thought that whenever I work, I will do something, which I enjoy the most, work with good people and that script will always be my hero. Whether it is an OTT platform or a film, for me a role is a role. In both the mediums, the work is the same, rather on OTT the work is a bit more, like there were eight episodes (in The Trial). The work is the same.”
