The late Rishi Kapoor will grace our screens with a new film, Sharmaji Namkeen soon. The film also stars Paresh Rawal, Juhi Chawla, Suhail Nayyar, Taaruk Raina, Satish Kaushik, Sheeba Chaddha, and Isha Talwar.
Amazon Prime Video announced the release date along with two new posters. One features a bespectacled Kapoor, and in the other, he is seen walking alongside Rawal.
Sharmaji Namkeen is a coming-of-age drama about a 60-year-old man. The film "dwells on the life of a recently retired man who discovers his passion for cooking after joining a riotous women’s kitty circle," according to a press release.
After Kapoor's passing in 2020 due to leukaemia, Rawal took over his portions and completed Sharmaji Namkeen. Excel Entertainment had roped in the veteran actor to take carry forward the story, which he called "emotionally overwhelming experience," according to PTI.
The two actors have previously worked together in Damini, Hathyar and Patel Ki Punjabi Shaadi. This film will also see Kapoor on-screen with Chawla, whom he had worked with on Bol Radha Bol, Eena Meena Deeka and Daraar.
"Sharmaji Namkeen is a slice-of-life story of an ordinary man and his extraordinary pursuit to find a new meaning in life. We are humbled and thankful to work with the legendary actor, the late Rishi Kapoor, for this epic family entertainer, which remains his last onscreen portrayal," said producer Ritesh Sidhwani of Excel.
Honey Trehan and director Abhishek Chaubey are also producing under their banner MacGuffin Pictures.
Sharmaji Namkeen releases on March 31.
