Sharmaji Namkeen: Paresh Rawal was the perfect choice to step into the shoes of late Rishi Kapoor, says producer Farhan Akhtar

Rishi Kapoor's film, Sharmaji Namkeen is the new talk of the town. The fans have been waiting to catch a glimpse of the late actor in his last film and their excitement has only gone up since the release of the trailer. Film lovers are excited to watch the legendary actor Rishi Kapoor lighting up the screen for one last time.

Rishi Kapoor plays the eponymous character of Sharma ji in this Hitesh Bhatia directorial. Due to his untimely demise, he couldn't complete the film and the veteran actor Paresh Rawal was roped in to play the character and complete the project. It’s for the first time that Hindi cinema will witness two phenomenal actors playing one character on the screen, bringing their unique style to the table.

The film is produced by actor-director Farhan Akhtar. The filmmaker recently revealed how they came to decide to cast Rawal for Sharmaji’s role. In a press statement, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara actor said that when they were discussing to recast the role, Paresh Rawal was on the top of his list. "I have always been an admirer of his work, and also had the opportunity to work with him. There is a certain personality type to Sharmaji’s character, he is a person who can come across maybe tough from the outside but soft and emotional from inside. I feel there is part of Paresh ji that matches this kind of personality," he said. He further added that they were never concerned if he will be able to pull off the character as he is a gifted actor.

"Embodying the essence of this character was the most important thing for me. He was absolutely the best person to do it,” he said.

Sharmaji Namkeen is an Excel Entertainment Production in association with Macguffin Pictures. The film also features Juhi Chawla, Suhail Nayyar, Taaruk Raina, Satish Kaushik, Sheeba Chaddha and Isha Talwar.

Sharmaji Namkeen will release on March 31, 2022, on Amazon Prime Video.
