The businesswoman said that the idea originated when she herself went in search of good, irritation-free products for her infant son
Shark Tank India featured some inspiring stories from up-and-coming entrepreneurs who started their journey from humble beginnings. And not only the contestants, but the sharks too have their fair share of stories to tell on how some of them built their business empires from the ground up. Ghazal Alagh’s story of how she came to establish her skincare and cosmetic company, MamaEarth, is no different.
In an interview with Raj Shamani, the businesswoman talked about how the idea for the company came from something simple - her desire to avail good quality and irritation-free products for her young son. She opened up about how she and her husband used to order products from outside the country and how she used to hoard them until they expired. News about baby products being taken off the shelves due to cancer-causing ingredients in them had also frightened Alagh.
She said she was under a lot of pressure to do things right by her son and talked about how the lax regulations in the country when it came to the ingredients in baby products had bothered her. After she complained to her husband, Varun about the same, the two came up with the idea for the company.
Varun also talked about how the passion for starting their own business had been there for quite a while, and he started to worry that life’s passing him by and he’ll have regrets. And once the two got a purpose and enough experience, they decided to take the plunge with MamaEarth. “We owe it to our lives to at least try,” added Varun.
