Shark Tank India
A woman from Darjeeling has won over the judges of Shark Tank India, the business reality show on SonyLIV. The investors Aman Gupta, Vineeta Singh, Ashneer Grover were so impressed by her pitch that they decided to offer her more than what she had asked for.
Aditi Madan, popularly known as Momo Mami in Delhi presented a heart-warming pitch about her product and business model. The entrepreneur runs a frozen momo business in Delhi and the entire panel was impressed with her product when she gave a demo of the product. On the show, she asked for Rs 50 lakh as investment from the sharks for a 5 per cent equity in her business. Ashneer Grover, the co-founder of BharatPe, responded first to her pitch by offering Rs 50 lakh but in exchange for 7% equity. He also added that he would drop the offer if the entrepreneur looks for other offers. Anupam Mittal, the co-founder of Shaadi.com, and Namita Thapar, the executive director of Emcure Pharmaceuticals decided not to make an offer, citing different reasons.
The investor Vineeta Singh, the co-founder of Sugar Cosmetics, came to rescue Momo Mami. She offered Rs 50 lakh, but asked for 20% in equity. Unhappy with the deal, Momo Mami first declined the offer while the other shark Aman Gupta, the co-founder of boAt, made an offer. Gupta consulted with Ashneer silently in the background and made an offer of Rs 50 lakh in exchange for 12 per cent equity, in collaboration with Ashneer.
Momo Mami consulted with her team of co-founders and made counteroffers. She offered Rs 50 lakh for 10 per cent equity in the company or Rs 75 lakh for 12 per cent. Ashneer told her not to be so greedy. Meanwhile, Vineeta offered the additional Rs 25 lakh as well for the deal. Momo Mami was then asked to decide between two offers –Rs 50 lakh for 12 per cent or Rs 75 lakh for 16 per cent. She consulted her team again and decided to go with the other offer of Rs 75 lakh for 16 per cent equity. She left the show with three cheques from the sharks.
But before she left the show, she received a hug from Vineeta as she was moved by what she had said in conclusion. When Vineeta asked Madan what made her pick the second offer, she said as a woman, she also wanted a woman to be a part of the business. Vineeta could hold herself back. She immediately rushed to her and gave her a tight hug.
