Grover is the MD & Co-Founder at the fintech company BharatPe
Ashneer Grover is one of the judges on the business reality show Shark Tank India. A popular businessman, he is the MD & Co-Founder of BharatPe. He is an IIM Ahmedabad alum where he studied MBA in finance. The entrepreneur came up with the idea of BharatPe in 2018 and co-founded it with Shashvat Nakrani. He started the company reportedly with just six employees but it went on to become one of the most used platforms to make payments in the country. BharatPe is India's first UPI payment-backed platform in the country and aims to offer an end-to-end financial services platform.
Grover was born and brought up in Delhi. His father is a CA and his mother is a teacher. He was a bright student and performed exceptionally well in academics. He studied BTech in Civil Engineering at IIT Delhi. He was one of the six students who was selected in an exchange programme at INSA Lyon in France. He moved to France in 2002 and received a scholarship of Rs 5 lakh from French Embassy. After completing his MBA at IIM, he landed a job as the vice president of Kotak investment banking. He later worked for American Express, Grofers and PC Jewellery. It was while working at PC Jewellery as a business head that he got the idea to start BharatPe.
Grover married an entrepreneur Madhuri Jain Grover in 2006 and has a son and a daughter. Madhuri was an interior designer before she joined BharatPe to manage HR, finance and other internal operations. She joined the company as Grover was unable to afford many employees and needed help with the internal operations. She has worked with the likes of Satya Paul and Alok Industries. She has also designed the homes of the Ghajini actress Asin and her husband Rahul.
The head office of BharatPe is located in New Delhi and its brand ambassador is Salman Khan. Grover has won the Entrepreneur of the year award in 2021. According to a report in GQ India, his estimated net worth is Rs 21,300 crore. Grover is known for his passion for cars and he owns several high-end ones including a Mercedes Maybach S650 worth Rs 2.5 crore, Porsche Cayman S, the top version of which in India costs about Rs 1.89 crore, Mercedes Benz GLS 350 of about Rs 1.14 crore in India and Audi A6, the cost of which starts at Rs 58.80 lakh.
