In India, the most searched keywords at any time are 'cricket', 'Bollywood' and 'astrology'. This was a claim made by a pitcher of an astrology service company, Melooha, on Shark Tank India Season 3. In the hope of receiving fruitful investment from the investors, popularly addressed as the Sharks, the pitchers claimed that Melooha is an AI-powered, hyper-personalised astrology and horoscope mobile application that is available on iOS and Android. After hearing the pitch, investor Aman Gupta, whose net worth is close to Rs 700 crore, was not willing to invest in the company. Here is why.

After hearing Melooha's pitch, Aman said that he does not believe in astrology. He gave a funny yet convincing example. Aman said that if an astrologer predicts that a dog might bite him soon, he will develop a fear of dogs. This fear can give rise to misconceptions and false truths. Hence, he does not believe in a service that promotes fear and stigma.

Namita Thapar and Vineeta Singh, who were also on the panel, laughed in response.

Taking the conversation to a serious note, Aman asked the pitchers whether they had predicted an incident in the past and it did not turn out to be true. Mrs Pathak, one of the pitchers, said, “Yes, aisa ho sakta hai. Main bhi toh insaan hoon. (Yes, it can happen. I am a human after all.)”

Anupam Mittal, another popular Shark, then directly asked the pitchers whether they would receive an investment on the show or not. The pitchers were unable to respond to the question.

Deepinder Goyal, a Shark who has a net worth of thousands of crores of rupees, also wondered whether the business is viable or not. Only time will tell whether the astro-business received an investment or not. In my opinion, it is very unlikely that the business will receive an offer on the show, given the glimpses seen in the promotional video.
