Shanvi Srivastava is set to make her Marathi film debut with Raanti

Mumbai-based model and actress Shanvi Srivastava, who has worked predominantly in Kannada cinema, since her debut in Telugu films, has, in recent times, made baby steps into the Malayalam industry and is now counting down to venturing into Marathi movies. Shanvi will be seen in Raanti, which has Sharad Kelkar in the lead. The Samit Kakkad directorial, which was announced way back in 2022, is now gearing up for a theatrical outing and has zeroed in on November 22 as the D-day.

Shanvi Srivastava: I’m not in the zone to play heroine in typical commercial films

What’s interesting about Raanti is that it is the Marathi remake of the Kannada film Ugramm, which was KGF-maker Prashant Neel’s debut directorial. But that’s not all. Neel himself had upgraded his debut film and made it on a much bigger scale as Salaar, with Prabhas in the lead. The Telugu original film was, subsequently, dubbed and released in Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi for a country-wide release.

While Shanvi takes on a role that Hariprriya had done in the original, and which Shruti Haasan then played in Salaar, Sharad Kelkar plays ‘the most violent man’, which Sriimurali and Prabhas had done versions of. Sharad, incidentally, dubbed for Prabhas in the Hindi version of Salaar. The team of Raanti recently released a teaser to announce the film’s impending theatrical outing.

I may not get the kind of role, like the one in Baang, often, so I did it to satisfy the artiste in me: Shanvi

Shanvi, who was last seen in the dark comedy Baang in Kannada, has Nagathihalli Chandrashekhar’s Amara Madhura Premam in her list of upcoming films. The film also stars Pruthvi Ambaar and Nirup Bhandari. In an earlier interview with OTTplay, the actress had said that her career priorities had shifted and that she was not hung up about playing the lead all the time. Work that excites her as an artiste is what she is looking for, says Shanvi, adding that heroine roles in regular commercial films are not on her list anymore, although the role in Raanti could still qualify.
