Also starring Prakash Raj, Malavika Avinash, Raveena Tandon and Srinidhi Shetty, KGF 2 is bankrolled by Hombale Films
Director Shankar is the latest to shower praise on KGF 2, directed by Prashanth Neel. The Yash-starrer continues to remain an unstoppable run at the box office, and in fact, is the second film in India to cross the Rs 1000 crore mark, following SS Rajamouli's Baahubali 2: The Conclusion. On Twitter, Shankar couldn't stop raving about the screenplay, and how KGF 2 was packed with action and style. Also, he referred to Yash, as a powerhouse performer.
KGF 2 is a sequel to the 2018 period-action blockbuster KGF, led by Yash. The film follows the story of Rocky (Yash) who rises from poverty to become the king of a gold mine. KGF 2 also marked Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt’s Kannada acting debut. Also starring Prakash Raj, Malavika Avinash, Raveena Tandon and Srinidhi Shetty, KGF 2 is bankrolled by Hombale Films.
Meanwhile, speculations were suggesting that the third chapter of KGF was going on floors this year. In a recent media interaction, Vijay Kiragandur of Hombale Films, the producer of KGF, had hinted that the third instalment of the Pan-Indian film franchise will only begin after October and hit screens in 2024. This means KGF 3 will not be starting anytime soon.
KGF 2 was released on April 14 to overwhelmingly positive reviews. According to a statement from Excel Entertainment and AA Films, KGF 2 "made box office history in various markets becoming the highest ever Day-1 collection for a Hindi film, grossing Rs 63.66 crore."
"When we started shooting K.G.F: Chapter 1, we never thought it would get this big. All we wanted to do was make a huge Kannada film. During that time, Baahubali was released and we noticed that people beyond Andhra watched it when it was dubbed into other languages. That got us wondering about how people watch films in other languages too. For K.G.F, it was never about the scale but content. It was only after Yash and I watched the film before its release that we decided that it had the potential to cut across boundaries," Prashanth Neel told The Hindu.
On the work front, Shankar has Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2 and an untitled film with Ram Charan in the pipeline. Ram Charan will appear in a dual role in this one. Tentatively titled RC15, the film, written by Petta-fame Karthik Subbaraj, is a political drama. RC15 is produced by Dil Raju and Sirish under Sri Venkateswara Creations. Bollywood actor Kiara Advani will be seen opposite Ram Charan in this film, while S Thaman will compose the music.
