Shamshera: Ranbir Kapoor opens up about playing both a father and a son in his forthcoming film

Shamshera, also starring Vaani Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt, will hit theatres on July 22, 2022.

Shamshera is one of the most awaited films of the year as it marks the return of Ranbir Kapoor on the big screens after four years. He will also be seen playing the double role in the film. The makers released the trailer of the film, directed by Karan Malhotra, today. At the Shamshera trailer launch today Ranbir Kapoor said why he played two characters in the film since he as well as the other producers were apprehensive about it.

According to the actor, the film's producers were not confident that an actor like Ranbir could play both a father and a son. Ranbir went on to discuss how many screen tests the team had to go through in order to persuade themselves. Ranbir went on to say, “Script sunne ke baad, itna lalach aya as an actor kyun ki wo itna hi kamaal ka character tha,” (After hearing the script, I felt greedy to perform the role since it was such an incredible character).”

He added “But woh jo father ka character tha woh mujhe bahut hi kamal laga, and I was really crossing my fingers and Karan allowed me to play this character. (But the father's role seemed fantastic to me, and I was crossing my fingers that Karan would let me portray him).”

Shamshera is produced by Aditya Chopra through his production company, Yash Raj Films. Sanjay Dutt and Vaani Kapoor both play crucial parts in the film. Shamshera will be released in theatres on July 22. The historical action adventure film marks the first on-screen collaboration of Ranbir, Sanjay, and Vaani.

Meanwhile, Ranbir is also preparing for Luv Rajan's forthcoming film with Shraddha Kapoor. He will also feature in Animal directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, alongside Rashmika Mandanna. Ranbir will also co-star in Brahmastra with his wife, Alia Bhatt.
