Her co-star Ranbir Kapoor said he believed Vaani Kapoor was a ‘closet method actor’.
Shamshera will see Vaani Kapoor essay the role of Sona, the flamboyant travelling performer and the love interest to Ranbir Kapoor’s Balli. In a recent BTS video, the makers gave a glimpse into what went into Vaani’s transformation as Sona.
In the video director Karan Malhotra spoke of how he’d been excited to work with Vaani since seeing her ‘fresh’ and ‘confident’ performance in her first film. Calling her character in Shamshera 'substantially written’ and ‘empowered’, the actress said that she’d gotten goosebumps when she heard the narration. The actress also spoke of how she had to learn horse riding for the film as well, and formed an emotional connect with the animal.

Her co-star Ranbir also had nothing but good things to say about Vaani. Praising her hardwork and commitment, Ranbir said that he felt Vaani was a ‘closet method actor’. He also credited her with bringing both ‘strength’ and ‘innocence’ into the character of Sona and said he was ‘proud’ of his co-star.
Sanjay Dutt, who essays the role of the antagonist Shuddh Singh in the film, also praised Vaani for her confident performances both as an actor and dancer in the film. Speaking of how he got to know her when working on the film, Sanjay also described the actress as a ‘wonderful person’.
Vaani calls Sona a ‘flamboyant, beautiful, brave person, full of substance’. She said that the role was something she had never explored before as an actor and she had to adapt herself to the director’s vision. “I love how refreshingly different Sona looks from every other character that I’ve played before”, she said.
The upcoming film, bankrolled by Yash Raj Films, also features Ashutosh Rana and Ronit Roy.
Shamshera is slated to release on the big screen on July 22, 2022. The film will be released in Hindi, Telugu and Tamil.
