If you have already watched the power-packed trailer of Shahid Kapoor’s highly-anticipated actioner Bloody Daddy you would know that the actor has gone full throttle for his first OTT film. Shahid - who has already been in the news ever since the release of Farzi, his debut television series on Amazon Prime Video - will now be seen in Ali Abbas Zafar’s action thriller film, releasing on June 9, on JioCinema. Shrugging off his ‘chocolate boy’ romantic hero image, Shahid has donned a rather intense avatar for Bloody Daddy, featuring in some never-before-seen action sequences.
Also featuring Sanjay Kapoor, Diana Penty, Ronit Roy, Rajeev Khandelwal, Ankur Bhatia and Vivan Bhatena, the film is inspired by the 2011 French film Sleepless Night. Shahid plays an NCB officer in the movie, who is on a mission to crack a narcotics scam.
Speaking at the trailer launch of Bloody Daddy in Mumbai earlier today, Shahid elaborated on what attracted him most about this actioner. He said, “Maine apne aapko Ali ke godi mein dal diya tha. I told him that you have been doing action films for many years, and all your actors look damn hot on screen. Mere ko acha dikha dena. So, the entire credit goes to Ali. I think he understands how to bring action that is cinematic and gritty, and not like an amusement park, where it looks like somebody is flying or something. Of course, that also works and there is a place for that as well. But what really excites me is when the action feels very raw and when it feels like it’s happening. And the way that it’s being shot, it feels like you’re in the middle of it and it becomes really nice, edgy and sexy. So, I think that’s what he also wanted to do.”
Adding to that, the actor said, “It’s also a very interesting combination as a subject of a character’s emotion-driven piece. That’s why it’s a titular part, because the character is central in the way the story is told. But the ambience in the world that he’s a part of and the stylisation of the action and the treatment - those two things need to go hand in hand in a subject like this. And I really must say that Ali brought his A-game onto this film.”
Released earlier this year, in Raj & DK’s black comedy crime thriller series Farzi Shahid was seen alongside Vijay Sethupathi, Kay Kay Menon, Raashii Khanna and Bhuvan Arora. It’s the story of a disillusioned artist, who resorts to making counterfeit money.
