Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan is basking in the success of his latest movie Jawan. Written and directed by Atlee, it became SRK's second consecutive movie to cross the Rs 1000 crore milestone at the box office. Even as the buzz around Jawan continues to rage on, his next movie Dunki is parallelly beginning to dominate the pop cultural discourse in the country.
What is the story of Dulquer Salmaan's CIA?
Speculations are rife that Dunki is the remake of the Malayalam movie CIA, which is short for Comrade in America. Directed by Amal Neerad, the 2017 movie explored the themes of love, identity, and political activism. Starring Dulquer Salmaan in the lead role, the movie follows the journey of a young man from Kerala to the United States to reunite with his love interest. In the course of the journey, the movie sheds light on the struggles and challenges faced by immigrants and the complexities of modern relationships.
Based on the initial impressions created by the annulment teaser for Dunki, many seemed to have concluded that it could be a travelogue movie like CIA, with a strong commentary on the need for love and acceptance to heal the world.
However, many have lashed out at such speculation on social media. "My request to all #Prabhas𓃵 fans: Embrace your star's strength, spread positivity, and handle the #SalaarVsDunki clash gracefully. #Dunki is not a remake, and we know it well," wrote an X user reacting to the controversy.
"CIA was action thriller and Dunki is Comedy Drama," reasoned the other.
Dunki set to for big opening
Nevertheless, Dunki is one of the most-awaited movie events of 2023. It also marks a maiden collaboration between Shah Rukh Khan and director Rajkumar Hirani. The trade is convinced that SRK will end this year with a bang by scoring his third consecutive Rs 1000 crore hit at the box office.
